Position Description

Provides overall administrative and technical direction, enforces company and project policies, main client interface, and ensures project is constructed in accordance with design, budget, and schedule through project engineers.

Essential Functions

  • Demonstrates experience in all aspects of managing complex commercial construction projects.
  • Can successfully lead and manage a traditional renovation project, a new “out of the ground” projects, or multiple SPA (small project account) projects (of variable size, complexity, and value).
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, architects, engineers, and regulatory agencies.
  • Demonstrates understanding of the importance of serving the internal and external customer and successfully executes on the highest level of customer service.
  • Proactively identify and resolve project challenges to minimize delays and cost overruns.
  • Demonstrates basic understanding of risk management and safety, proactively managing the team to ensure all field activities are completed 100% safely.
  • Demonstrates the ability to manage 1 to 3 junior staff members, ensuring a project atmosphere that enables learning and development.
  • Prepares and manages detailed and accurate construction project schedules.
  • Ability to prepare accurate project subcontractor scope documents that mitigate risk and avoids work gaps or overlaps.
  • Demonstrates high level of technical knowledge of commercial construction, contracts, and other construction documents and specifications.
  • Utilizes team to manage project documentation, including RFIs, change orders, and progress reports.
  • Ability to read and understand details subcontract agreements, purchase orders and other agreements.
  • Ability to manage project financials and negotiate the change process.
  • Demonstrates ability to work well within a team and shows high level of leadership.
  • Demonstrates adaptability and flexibility (e.g., willing to travel, reprioritize schedule, etc.).
  • Demonstrates strong sense of accountability.
  • Demonstrates ability to professionally and productively handle confrontation.
  • Maintains a positive professional demeanor among peers and colleagues.
  • With appropriate assistance from Senior Leadership successfully handles $3-$8 million traditional renovation project or new “out of the ground” project.
  • With appropriate assistance from Senior Leadership manages or assists the Preconstruction team, in purchasing/buyout or estimating of $3-$10 million project (or collective group of projects).
  • Continues building industry knowledge through related training (e.g., LEED AP, PE, etc.).
Skills/Experience Needed:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management or related industry degree and 10+ years commensurate experience
  • Completed OSHA 10-hour training
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving ability
  • Strong work ethic and team building skills
  • Proven knowledge of scheduling techniques and the programs used to generate them
  • Working knowledge of MS Office suite and other industry/company related programs
  • Strong understanding of safety in the construction environment
  • Understanding of importance of project insurance(s)
  • Proven written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to effectively present to both and internal and external audience
  • Experience in Preconstruction and/or Estimating
  • Educational or on the job experience with Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Fire Suppression and/or HVAC components of a commercial construction project
  • Healthcare construction experience is a plus
  • Workplace and/or retail experience is a plus

Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • Work schedule will include weekdays and may include weekends and/or holidays as workloads dictate
  • Job will include being in an office environment as well as on construction sites, and will require travel to customer's office/facility (conditions may vary at each location)
  • May be assigned to work at a client's office, facility, or site for an extended period of time (conditions may vary at each location)
  • Physical requirements: sitting, standing, walking, bending, twisting, climbing, pushing, pulling, lifting up to 25 lbs., seeing and reading
