Landscape Training Specialist

Job Title: Training Specialist
Summary: Works in cooperation with the Director of Development, Maintenance Operations Manager and Safety Manger, to conduct and manage the initial and ongoing functional training of the workforce. Works to ensure that employees are trained to safely operate all required equipment for their position. Must maintain working knowledge of all applicable commercial turf maintenance equipment and safety practices.

Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned as deeded appropriate.

  1. Conducts New hire orientation to include:
    • Basic safety knowledge
    • Initial skills assessment and/or training to include correct use and safe operation of equipment, i.e. Walk Behind and ZTR mowers, line trimmers, bed and sidewalk edgers and power shears
    • Proper Trailer connections, loading and driving procedures.
  2. Schedule and conduct seasonally required training for existing employees to include:
    • Mulch mule loading and operation.
    • Proper mixing and application of chemicals.
    • Snow equipment; salt spreaders, plow trucks, etc.
  3. Distributes initial PPE and maintain proper inventory of same.
  4. Track specialized safety equipment (specialized PPE); its distribution, maintenance and replacement. Also, provide training to employees for said specialized safety equipment.
  5. Document all training and education, including OJT and outside certifications.
  6. Provide refresher training for employees involved in accidents or those who repeated violate safety standards.
  7. Conduct and/or participate in weekly safety meetings/toolbox talks as directed.
  8. Make recommendations to improve operational and safety training content, protocols and policy.
  9. Participate in coaching and/or warnings of employees as needed.
  10. Provides ongoing training and skill development activities for all Foreman, Crew Leaders and Crew members as it relates to corresponding roles and responsibilities through classroom education and/or On-the-Job Training.
  11. Support safety manager by
    • Actively participating and documenting incident reports to include damaged property, physical injuries, near misses and any other safety violations.
    • Performing safety audits of company trucks, trailers, equipment, machinery, power and hand tools.

Qualifications:To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education/Experience:High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and at least six (6) to eight (8) years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations, to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization in both English and Spanish.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply/convey complex knowledge. Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in complex situations.

  • OSHA 30-hour certification
  • Certified on all EMI Maintenance Division equipment

Project Engineer, Licensed Engineer-in-Training

George J. Igel & Co., Inc. is looking to hire a full-time civil engineer in our survey and engineering department. This individual will work on a team with other in-house engineers to help design and coordinate various assigned duties as needed. The individual will coordinate with Igel Superintendents and Project Managers to manage details, procedures, engineering and directing the ordering, subcontracting and fabricating of the materials that will be required in the field. This individual will perform engineering analysis on temporary earth retention systems, concrete forming systems, worker safety design systems, bridge construction processes and other types of construction engineering as required per our current work-types.

Report to: Staff Engineer (Registered Ohio Professional Engineer)

Work hours: As required to perform job function, generally 7:00 am to 5:00 pm

JOB DUTIES:

  • Design of temporary construction systems and processes to help efficiently, effectively and safely build a project to the specifications of the client. Such systems include: retaining walls for braced and tied-back excavations (soldier pile lag walls & sheet pile walls), steel falsework design for supporting structures under construction, formwork design, excavation plans, dewatering, steel design and the design of worker safety systems.
  • Designing and authorizing work plans, providing calculations, reviewing and solving field problems as they arise, developing and submitting drawings for internal review and for customer approval.
  • Review of internal engineered drawings & designs prior to being stamped, looking for errors, omissions and discrepancies.
  • Travel roughly 10% of the week to visit job sites. Site visits are for solving field issues, providing quality control, verifying information and inspecting installed construction systems.
  • Creation and review of various submittals as required by contract with the owner.
  • Cross-train and help to develop fellow team members.
  • Accountable for review of plans and specifications as assigned.
  • Take-off, pricing, purchasing and the review of material purchase orders and subcontractor scopes of work.
  • Setting up pricing change estimate in HCSS for revisions to the scope of work.
  • Innovation; take a CREATIVE approach to make the work more efficient and better. Find a better way to build projects, improve communication, and carry out daily assignments.
  • Drafting of completed design work to create shop drawings that communicate clearly to the field construction crews.
  • 3D modeling for construction of machine control modeling as required.

CANDIDATE MUST POSSESS:

  • A four-year degree from an ABET accredited college or university in engineering or civil engineering technology.
  • Status as an E.I.T. or a willingness to achieve such status.
  • Strong understanding of reinforced concrete design, steel design, structures, statics and mechanics of materials.
  • An ability and willingness to work with all personnel in the company providing a support role as a engineer.
  • AutoCAD experience would be a plus, though not required.
  • Leadership and teamwork skills.
  • A professional attitude and a solid ethical set of ideals.
  • A valid state driver's license and safe driving record.
