Geotechnical Engineer

SME is seeking a Geotechnical Engineer for a regular, full-time Project Manager position to join our Team in our Columbus, Ohio offices. This is a key role on our Geotechnical Services team. Activities will include working with key clients and prospects to secure business opportunities, and managing a wide variety of geotechnical engineering and design projects.

Responsibilities for this position include:

  • Identifying and securing clients and business/project opportunities both independently and in support of other local, regional and corporate business development activities.
  • Preparing successful proposals, negotiating professional service fees and contracts.
  • Identifying and participating in professional and business organizations and other networking activities that will foster relationships with clients and potential clients.
  • Learning about other SME services to assist in promoting and expanding geotechnical and other SME services to new and existing clients.
  • Preparing design calculations, drawings and specifications for earth retention, grouting, deep foundation, and reinforced earth systems projects.
  • Completing analytical modeling for geotechnical evaluations.
  • Preparing geotechnical evaluation reports.
  • Mentoring and leading project team members to successfully complete assigned responsibilities.

Requirements for this position include:

  • A minimum of 10 years of experience managing projects and maintaining/developing clients.
  • A Master's Degree in Civil Engineering whose area of specialization is Geotechnical Engineering.
  • Professional Registration
  • Preference will be given to candidates who have related experience in consulting engineering practice and familiarity with MathCAD, Slide, CT-shoring and Allpile or LPile.
  • Ability to build a practice by bringing or establishing a network of prospects and clients to get new business.
  • Excellent communication, report writing and customer relations skills.
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to new challenges and learn new concepts.
  • A willingness to work hard in an efficient and organized manner.
  • A clean driving record and experience driving in the U.S.
  • Willingness to travel to cover out-of-town overnight projects and,
  • Ability to work overtime, including weekends, on an as-needed basis.

As an Account Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing existing commercial cleaning accounts (including construction final cleans). The primary focus will entail contract renewals, project estimates for existing general contractors we work with and business development activities leading to new accounts.

Job Functions:

  1. Think creatively and execute effectively on attracting new business opportunities
  2. Review requests for bids and provide estimates accordingly for incoming janitorial work (commercial and construction final cleaning) and follow up on those opportunities
  3. Working closely with the Quality Control Supervisor and Shift Managers to ensure any challenges that need to be addressed or changes that need to be implemented are considered at the time of contract renewal
  4. Support Commercial Services Director and Shift Managers (day and night) as needed
  5. Communicate any customer concerns or areas to address to the commercial management team
  6. Manage new customers through the sales process: contact, walk through, quote, follow up, contract, schedule, pass off to Commercial and Construction Managers as appropriate
  7. Responsible for renewing all current contracts and making any amendments to the contracts

Field Duties:

  • Carrying out electrical portion of commercial projects, maintaining project schedules and budgets, directing other electrical division employees
  • Assist TEAM DDS in developing rough floor plans from clients into working construction drawings (Electrical Portion) to be turned in for approval for building permits from appropriate authorities
  • Collection of existing field data to be utilized in process of completing drawings and construction estimates
  • Reading and interpreting Ohio Building Codes / NEC and assisting to develop drawings to conform

Office Duties:

  • Obtaining and maintaining electrical contractor registration, estimating, scheduling, process controls and policies.
  • Overall continued refinement of company policies to aid in developing and growing the new Electrical division
  • Contribute to the continued leadership role and overall growth in the commercial cabinetry and construction field

  • Commercial Electrician License
  • 4-6 years related experience preferred
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, etc.)
  • Must be outgoing, self-motivated and able to take initiative.
  • Must be able to work in both a team environment and as an individual, self-directed
  • Experience in Electrical drawings.
  • Experience in Mechanical and Plumbing drawings, a plus
